Dumbest Marketing Mail Ever

by Aaron on Thursday, July 10, 2008

I got this at my mailbox in Sydney.

A very craftily worded scam piece from a bunch of guys called the “Domain Renewal Group”. I wonder how many people they suckered into thinking that they were actually legit?

Domain Renewal Scam

Notice how they never exactly state that they are asking you to CHANGE REGISTRAR. They just keep on mentioning that “your domain is about to expire” and “you must renew now to keep it”.

I think I’ll stick with my $9.99 a year with Goddady thanks.

I got the same letter today for one of my domains. Six months out from expiring.

It’s pretty similar to the Internet Name Group scam running a few years ago.

I got one too. I’m going to fill up their reply paid envelope with something and post it, so they have to pay for it.

Hi Aaron,

It’s a very underhand tactic, and in the UK it’s Nominet, the GOVERNING BODY of domains who do this same trick! Found this site thru Twitter – Take care, Paula
